The Four Unusual Items I Take on Every Trip
Whether I’m traveling internationally or domestically, I always make sure to leave space in my luggage for these four unusual items: a sinus rinse kit, a white noise machine, my favorite tea bags, and a travel-size squirt bottle of liquid stevia.
The sinus rinse kit has saved me on numerous occasions from being sick during a vacation and missing out on all the fun! I’m very sensitive to allergens and air pollution when I travel to a new destination, which tends to trigger sinus infections. I don’t know about you, but when I get a sinus infection, I’m down for the count for quite some time! The first time this happened was about halfway through a 6-week backpacking trip in SE Asia. Thankfully, I had my sinus rinse kit with me and only missed out on two days of my trip! The sinus rinse kit takes up very little space in my luggage and is super light-weight and a total life-saver!! 😀 You can buy it on Amazon here.
The white noise machine is a little more unorthodox to take with you on a trip, but if you’re a light sleeper like I am, this powerful machine can mean the difference between getting a good night’s rest on your trip or tossing and turning all night! I personally use the Marpac Dohm white noise sound machine. It has two speeds with adjustable tone and volume control and weighs just under two pounds (keep that in mind when packing). I’ve used it every night and traveled with it for almost a year now and haven’t had any problems with it. You can buy it on Amazon here.
I never go on a trip without my favorite tea bags and a travel-size squirt bottle of liquid stevia. It feels like I’m bringing a little bit of home with me when I can indulge in that small comfort, be it on the airplane or in my hotel room. My go-to is Earl Grey tea, and I prefer the taste of the Bigelow brand. I find that a small squirt of stevia really brings out the oil of bergamot. With a cup of this, I can almost forget being stuck in a middle seat between two sweaty people or having a room underneath a hotel guest that decides to feng shui his room at midnight! You can buy my favorite Bigelow Earl Grey tea bags here.

I love little glimpses into real travel like this. I always wrap my electronic cords in hair ties (because you can never have enough) and travel with instant coffee packets (withdrawal is real).
Those are great tips too! Every time I think I pack enough hair ties, I always end up losing every single one…I’m going to borrow your tip, thanks! 😀
